Not content to have just 2 directors who shouldn’t be speaking to the press, Paolo Scaroni opened his mouth.
When he was a player, you could find a way to spin Zlatan’s ego into something impressive. Oh look, he’s so confident, and you have to be to do what he does, right? The thing is, it’s a schtick. Spend 15 minutes around Zlatan and the third person references, the lion, the all-consuming solipsism grate on your nerves like watching Emerson Royal start at right back.
But now, we’ve all had enough, thank you very much. Zlatan hasn’t been trotted out in front of the media in months, thankfully. Furlani stepped up, and as alluded in my last post, promptly yelled loudly and shit his pants at the same time. Honestly, a step forward for this group.
Often ignored CEO Paolo Scaroni, a man chosen for the fact that he looks like the evil financier trying to stop James Bond, has taken up the mantle and entered the scene with his own brain farts that oozed out onto the microphone, “We don’t want to offer too much. The player [Jashari] wants to join us at all costs.”
I wrote an entire post on how incompetent Furlani was for his “sacrifices don’t need to be made” comments a week before shipping Reijnders out in 4% of the time they’ve spent negotiating with Club Brugge for Jashari. Obviously they weren’t going to bring him back, Zlatan has the impact of your neighbor’s grandmother yelling at you from a closed window, and so it was time for someone else to stand up and declare incompetency, Scaroni.
What I keep struggling with is that ALL of these people are idiots. This isn’t just one, it’s the whole lot. They have the awareness of a 3-year old and probably comparable communication skills. How have we not stumbled ass-backwards into someone capable of actual positive impacts? Igli Tare is… fine enough at it, and he does what he can, but when someone asks for the manager, they don’t expect Fredo to come walking out and tell them about tonight’s specials.
There’s an 80 year old that’s been rumored to be taking Scaroni’s job, a legend in these streets, Adriano Galliani. Say what you will, competent.
And unfortunately, that’s something that is so desperately needed, that I’m hoping they turn the clock back, and we try our reheated Allegri/Galliani soup one more time.
What’s the worst that could happen? He dies in office? They fuck up a transfer window with too many free transfers? Galliani stands outside Leoni’s apartment until he’ll sign on loan with option to buy that will not be picked up?
Call me nostalgic, but it’s a step up from the current group. Their superpower is their idiocy, the incompetents.
